Nikkō, 140 Kilometers North of Tokyo

Nikkō is a treasure chest of shrines and temples just like Kyoto and Nara. It is home to the Nikkō Tōshō-gū shrine, the three wise monkeys, and one of the best bowls of ramen I’ve ever had.

In the same way that we got lucky with Jidai Matsuri (https://reggiemateo.wordpress.com/2012/01/22/return-of-the-jidai-matsuri/) and the Kurama Fire Festival (https://reggiemateo.wordpress.com/2012/01/10/kurama-fire-festival-part-two/ ), we were fortunate to be here during the Shuki Taisai Grand Autumn Festival. There was even an archery on horseback exhibition in the morning. You have to love Japan.

More of Nikkō in the coming days.
